Nowadays children around 6-12 years old are addicted to watching videos on YouTube or similar platforms on the internet. While there are many of the videos that are suitable for children, others use unscrupulous gimmicky methods to profit from a young and impressionable audience, and the way the children engage with the online videos can be perplexing that make the children addicted to watching the review videos. This study investigates the factors that made the children focus on such content by tracking the children interests while watching the toy review videos on YouTube. Based on the findings, a design guideline for engaging children’s video content is proposed. The results indicates that there is specific component on the videos that make the children addicted to watch the video online, and the proposed guidelines will be applied in a different context to study whether it is able to emulate the same effects. Evaluation is performed by following the Child-Centered Design methods to achieve better results. Meanwhile, a simple prototype to evaluate the effectiveness of the user interface was successfully developed using Flutter framework. The result of the evaluation is the children focused on the educational videos that given as long as the toy unboxing videos, only if the educational video follows the proposed design guidelines. Whilst this study aims to study the good use of user interface towards children’s needs, it is also hoped can it be used for other applications that have similar deficiencies and as a reference when building educational video content that will attract children's attention.
